Needless to say, this should be considered a work in progress.

defensive spectrum---Ranks how difficult a fielding position is compared to others on the field. The accepted model is C-SS-2B-CF-3B-RF-LF-1B. Hence, it is harder to be a catcher than a shortstop, and etc. Also, you have to hit a lot better to be a 1B than you do if you are a middle infielder. Often times, if a player can hit, but is weak on defense, he is moved to an easier defensive position. It is very rare for a player to move to a more difficult defensive position, but on rare occasions (Dodgers' 70's era SS Bill Russell played OF in the minors, but if I have to go back 30 years, you know it is far from common) it happens.

LOOGY--Lefthanded one out guy. Used to describe a LH reliever who is brought on to face only LH hitters, and often just 1 or 2 batters total. Generally not a positive term, as relievers who are respected (Ray King, for example) are not referred to as LOOGY.

TINSTAAPP--there is no such thing as a pitching prospect, old saying (circa 2001 or so) coined by Baseball Prospectus geeks, I believe.

Replacement level--Usually referred to as about 88-92% of league average production, commonly used to describe a cheap minor league FA.

free talent--Often used the same as replacement level, refers to the type of player available on waivers, or from another team cheaply. Most often describes a veteran AAA player. While these players rarely develop into anything but reserves or platoon partners, there are exceptions (Marcos Scutaro).

Pitching Terms
#Pit/PA Number of Pitches Faced per Plate Appearance
1B Single
2B Double
3B Triple
Avg A Batting Average Against (Hitter's batting average against that pitcher) H/AB
BB Bases on Balls (Walks)
BF Batters Faced
BF/9 Batters Faced Per Nine Innings
BK Balks
CG Complete Games
ER Earned Runs
ERA Earned Run Average (ER/IP * 9)
FB Fly Balls
G Games
GB Ground Balls
GF Games Finished
GS Games Started
H Hits
HBP Hit By Pitch
HR Home Runs Allowed
IBB Intentional Bases on Balls
IP Innings Pitched
K Strikeouts
L Losses
R Runs
SH Sacrifice Hits Given Up
Sho Shut Outs
S Saves
SUP Run Support
W Wins
WHIP (W + H) / IP
WP Wild Pitches

Batting Terms
1B Single
2B Double
3B Triple
AB At Bats (Does not include walks or Sacrifice Hits)
AB/HR Home Runs per at Bat Ratio
AB/K At Bats Diveded By Strikeouts
AVG Batting Average H/AB
BA Batting Average H/AB
BB Bases on Balls
CS Caught Stealing
G Games Played
GB Ground Balls
GDP Grounded Into Double Play
GIDP Grounded Into Double Play
GRD Ground Balls
H Hits
HBP Hit By Pitch
HP/PA Hit Pitches per At Bat
HR Home Run
IBB Intentional Bases on Balls
OBP On-Base Percentage (H+BB+HBP) / (AB+BB+HBP+Sacrifice Flies)
OPS OBP + SLG
OXS OBP x SLG
R Runs
RBI Runs Batted In
SB Stolen Bases
SB% Stolen Base Percentage SB / (SB+CS)
SF Sacrifice Fly
SH Sacrifice Hits
SLG Slugging Percentage (TB/AB)
K Strike Outs
TB Total Bases H + (2 x 2B) + (3 x 3B) + (4 x HR)

Fielding Terms
A Assists
Ch Chances (Balls hit to a position)
CS Caught Stealing (On Throws by Catchers or Pickoffs by Pitchers)
CS% Caught Stealing Percentage
CERA Earned Run Average when Catching
DP Double Plays
E Errors
FPct Fielding Percentage (PO+A) / (PO+A+E)
G Games Played
GS Games Started
INN Innings
PB Passed Balls
PO Put Outs
RF Range Factor [ (PO+A) (9) ] / # of Defensive Innings
SBA Stolen Base Attempt
ZR Zone Rating (# of Outs made/# of Chances)
